*Celes Chere*
Final Fantasy VI

Event Worn At: Anime Expo 2001, Anime Expo 2002

Chara Info: Celes Chere -- prodigy child-general of the Empire. At age 18, she grew disillusioned with Imperial doctrines and was nearly put to death, before Locke Cole of the Returners rescued her. Her manner is cold as ice, but her heart pure as snow.

Why Her?: Celes has one of the big roles in my favorite video game, FFVI. While I adore Terra mounds more than her, Celes' cold yet easily-offended manner is fun to portray. Plus, I've got long straight blond hair and blue eyes, and I'm almost her exact height ^_^.

The Story: I absolutely adore this costume, though I think very few people actually recognized me at the con. This was generally a very simple costume to make; however, the circumstances surrounding it differ in difficulty :P.

Back a few months before the con, my boyfriend at the time and I decided we wanted to cosplay some sort of couple. I came up with the idea of Celes and Locke (it would have been Terra and Locke, but I had it in my head that a Terra costume would be hard to do :P). So he gathered up all his materials for the Locke costume, while I was still in Sailor V-construction land. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get the costume completed in time, but the day before we left I went and bought some fabric for the cape. I also bought some green fabric dye for a white leotard I already owned, thinking I would be able to dye it without a hassle.

Oh, how wrong I was. Research your fabrics before you do things to it, people. The bodysuit was 95% nylon, and nylon does NOT take to fabric dye well. After letting it sit an hour, I took the bodysuit out and rinsed it, only to find the bodysuit a VERY pale shade of sea-green. It definately wasn't the shade I wanted. Of course, this was July 4th, and I couldn't just go out and buy a leotard. The only option left open to me was to find a dance shop in Long Beach (where AX01 was) and get the leotard there. Well, I found a dance shop and got the leotard without a hitch (although it was $35 O_o).

I definately enjoyed wearing this costume more than Sailor V. It's MUCH more comfortable, especially the boots (they're all nice and padded inside *_*). Plus, having that cape billowing out behind you is really cool ^_^. I'd like to do some other things to this costume, like improve the epaulettes, which are just WAY too small. I'd also like to make some sort of sword to go along with it, and a sheath around my waist for it. Other than that, I think this costume is great as it is ^_^.

Pictures!

I really love this image. I look as if I have a figure! ::dies:: (taken by cousin Jessie) This would have been a great shot if my hair hadn't looked nappy in it. Grr, die Vegas wind! (taken by cousin Jessie) I'm mean. I'm nasty. I'm gonna jump off the rock and attack you, mwa ha ha! (taken by cousin Jessie) I quite like this pose. I think Celes would sit introspectively like that ^_^. (taken by cousin Jessie) I didn't want to smile when I took pictures as Celes, but I was connived ^_-.
