*Edward Elric*
Fullmetal Alchemist
Made for: Robbie
Worn at: Anime Expo 2005
Chara Info: Edward Elric is a boy on a mission to restore himself and his brother Alphonse to their natural states. He's using alchemy to help him along the way. (Sorry if this info sounds funny; I'm not that familiar with FMA ^^;;)
Why Him?: I honestly don't know why Robbie wants to cosplay Edward, other than the obvious -- there are very few short male characters that actually look somewhat masculine in the anime world.
The Story: Robbie made the automail and supplied some of the clothing, but I made the bulk of the remaining items.
The black long-sleeved shirt was made from a nice midweight cotton. Robbie's mother made the base shirt, and I finished it up by adding the collar and the white bias tape. This was the first time I have put on bias tape the "right way" (by using a Hong Kong finish) and it turned out so much nicer this way!
The belt is mostly made out of pleather (the center strap is a real belt that we color-matched). In order to match the base belt, I painted the edges of the belt and straps with fabric paint. It looked awesome until the paint started rubbing off >.>.
The jacket is really nice IMO ^^. It's made from the same stuff as the black shirt and completely lined in broadcloth. I decided that I wanted Robbie to have one of the nicest Edward jackets around, so I appliqued the design on the back. It took FOREVER. . .and unfortunately I discovered I reversed the design only after I finished. Boy, was I mad >.<.
The wig is also a piece of this costume I really like. The bangs and braid were basically things I had done twice before for Chrno, so it was really easy to do. I especially like the little antennae in the center XD.
I think Robbie looked really cute in this :). The only problem is that he gets REALLY hot in all the pleather and hot layers ^^;;.
