Why Her?: Pyxie was putting together an Atelier Elie group for Anime Expo, and I chose Flea because she looks similar to me. Plus I like her dress ^_^.
The Story: Most of the dress was made from a pattern, so at least I didn't waste brain cells figuring out how to work things ^_^. The waistline did frustrate me -- there's two layers of fabric gathered there, one extremely thick. The top was made first, and I'm happy with all of it except the sleeve hems. Those are icky >.< but the yellow fabric is delicate, so I can't take out many stitches without it showing majorly. After the base dress was made, I cut out a bunch of rectangles for the shoulder bands, sash, bow, and apron. This all went pretty well (except I can't get the shoulder bands to gather right! Grrr!!). After that, I made the blue hair bow (which safety pins onto a hair band--ghetto but simple ^_^) and attached ribbon to the neckline. The ribbon isn't accurate, but I actually like it better. It's black with embroidered blue and gold flowers. If I decide I want to be more accurate, I can take it off--yet again I resorted to safety pins ^^. The outfit is finished with a white choker (floating around somewhere from Sailor V), a pearl bracelet (which IMHO looks prettier than what Flea is wearing), and the white boots from Celes.
Pictures
I always pick the loveliest days to take pictures ^^;;. The wind is blowing (which killed the little curl my hair had) and the bows on the costume are not straight. I would be upset at my mother for that, but she was kind enough to take the pictures ^_^.
