*Super Sailor Moon (Manga)*
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
Made for: Meg
Worn at: Anime Expo 2005
Chara Info: Please tell me I don't have to explain this one. . .
Why Her?: It's a La Soldiers group cosplay thing for AX05. Meg is our Sailor Moon for the performance, and I'll be creating this special version of Super Sailor Moon for her. This rainbow-colored artbook Sailor Moon outfit has always been one of my favorite anime costumes of all time -- but let's face it, I'd make a horrible Moon :P. Meg is a different story ^^.
The Story: I am soooo, soooo happy with the way this turned out ;_;.
The leotard is made from Wickaway Lycra. I like it because it's thick and completely matte, but it has a slight yellow tint that annoys me. I used Butterick 5781 as the base pattern and modified it to include the seam on the back of the leotard. The hip roll is made from gold tricot lame
The main fabric is bridal satin. It is just about the shiniest stuff on the planet O_o. I think it worked well for manga-styled fuku, though. The patterns for the skirt and collar were drafted by myself, and the pattern for the front bow came from Lynleigh's website.
The rainbow gradient is all completely hand-painted. I started with white fabric and painted it on with Jacquard's Dye-Na-Flow paints. I absolutely love this stuff, which is why I provided a link to an information page. The collar was very quick (about 3-4 hours), but the skirt took me about 10 hours! Still, I'm quite happy with the effect ^^.
The wig was easily the most difficult part of the costume. The odango alone took Meg and I 6 hours each! Sewing the hair into the back of the wig also took a very long time. It's not absolutely perfect, but I think it's one of the better Sailor Moon wigs out there and I'm very proud of it.
There are a billion accessories that go along with this costume. The odango shields are painted buttons. The hair clips are pearls and hand-trimmed feathers glued to barrettes. The choker is gold tricot lame with a hand-painted heart-shaped button. The earrings are beautiful charms I found at a costume shop, and I accented them with pearls. The broaches are made from Paperclay, and the wings are made from real feathers!
Once Meg finally had the whole costume on, I felt so happy! I feel that this is definitely my best work to date, and Meg really completed it ^^.
