*Red Whirlwind*
Romeo x Juliet

Worn at: Anime Expo 2007

Chara Info: Red Whirlwind is Juliet's alter-ego. Reminiscent of Robin Hood, the Red Whirlwind protects the common people from the nobles of Neo Verona.

Why Her?: I almost died with glee when I saw the preview for Romeo x Juliet back in December 2006, and Red Whirlwind was mostly why. I instantly fell in love with this alternate, asskicking version of Juliet.

The Story: This was my Masquerade costume for Anime Expo 2007. So there is a lot of detail in this deceptively simple design.

The jacket was based off a Simplicity pattern, altered to accomodate my female figure :P. It's made of stretch poplin lined in broadcloth, and I think the trim is silk. The jacket hooks in the front. Unfortunately, it's a bit short in the front so I have to pin it to the pants to avoid revealing my tummy! The first hat was made from the same fabric and used my own pattern. I've since made a new hat based on a commercial pattern. The cape is dark red moleskin, and I also based it off a Simplicity pattern. The pants are made of a thick white stretch knit, cut on the bias to allow for more stretch.

The leather parts of the costume are the parts I'm most proud of. The mask is wire mesh sandwiched between Fosshape and leather. The Fosshape was heatset just enough to make it stiff yet flexible, and the ends have the accurate curl on the ends. The gloves are completely handmade from leather. I've made gloves before, but not from such a difficult fabric!

I got both my wig and boots from Cosworx. The wig is a bob in Fire Red cut shorter and styled a bit. The boots were cut at the top and trimmed with the gold silk.

I am very proud of this costume and the entire 2007 RxJ project because I put so much work into it all! Three costumes and two gigantic props -- wow, that was a lot of work!
