*Honda Tohru*
Fruits Basket
Event Worn At: Katsucon 9, Anime Expo 2003, Las Vegas Comic-Con 2003, Anime Vegas 2004
Chara Info: By a long chain of events, Tohru has come to live with the "prince" of her class, Sohma Yuki, and two of his cousins. She always has a smile on her face ^_^. She's a hard worker, although she's extremely naive and gullible.
Why Her?: Tohru is a sweet character, but hardly my favorite in the colorful cast of Fruits Basket. However, brown hair and big blue eyes? It's much easier for me to cosplay her than, say, Hatsuharu (although I'd love to some day XD). Plus, I got an incredible deal on the materials! I purchased material enough for both the winter and summer uniforms, and it was all under $25! Yes!
The Story: This was my first time making a school uniform. By no means did it turn out perfect, but it wasn't bad for a first try.
The skirt and jacket were made out of a light wool-like material. The collar and cuffs are cotton, and the stripes on both are satin ribbon. I was dumb and bought ribbon twice as wide as I needed, so I had to fold it as I was sewing. Needless to say, the collar took the most work ~~;;. Both the jacket and the skirt were modified patterns. The jacket has extra seams that Tohru's uniform doesn't have, but I sacrificed accuracy to give it a look I though would be more likely in real life ^_^. The outfit was completed by blue hair ribbons, trouser socks, and brown loafers.
I always have soooo much fun in this costume! There was a big Furuba gathering at Katsu and Anime Expo, and much craziness and hair-pulling ensued XD. It was fun to get squeals of "TOHRU!" from across a room every once in a while. Plus, this costume is SO comfortable. It's a nice thing to wear after having on high heels all the time ^^;;.
