*Princess Uranus*
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
Worn at: Anime Expo 2006
Chara Info: You already know about Haruka if you've looked at my other costumes. This gown is only seen in the manga, where it is revealed that each Senshi is also a princess of her respective planet.
Why Her?: Cosplaying Haruka/Uranus is an addiction I can't seem to break ^^;;. But honestly, I had no plans whatsoever for making this -- until I found a dress on eBay. Except for a few easily-changed details, it looked like what I would make if I ever decided to create this dress from scratch. Since it was only $20 and made out of nice-quality satin, I knew I had to snap it up.
The Story: This outfit took a grand total of three days to make. One for alterations to the dress, and two for the train and accessories.
The alterations were easily the most difficult part of making this outfit. I don't think I'll be sewing in this way again any time soon ^^;;. I cut out the neck and sides and sewed them up, and then made the side straps from a bow originally on the back of the dress. I'm unhappy with the fit of the dress, because the eBay seller lied about the bust measurement. She gave a size 3 1/2" larger than my own bust size, but it's way too tight in that area >.<.
The train is made of Joann's Casa chiffon. There's 3 yards of 60" fabric just in that little thing O_o. It's pleated slightly in the back to give it more fullness, and it's roll-hemmed (my new favorite thing for sheer fabrics :3). The train was designed to match the one I made for Akiko's (my Mini Super Dollfie Magie) Princess Saturn dress.
The necklace pendant and side ornaments are both made from semi-opaque stones glued to gold filigree charms. The rest of the necklace is made from glass beads strung on beading wire. The choker is sewn into a bow and snaps in the back.
On the whole, I like this dress. If it wasn't so tight and revealing in the top area, I'd probably love it :P.
